Mission

Our mission is to provide necessary support to school principals to maintain school administrative activities properly, to ensure that the funds directly received by students are properly provided, and to assist in the success of government school examinations.

Overseeing 142 schools, 4,800+ teachers and 82,000+ students within the Galle Education Zone.

The General Administration Section implements policies and circulars issued by the Ministry of Education Sri Lanka and supports other divisions by providing necessary administrative services, ensuring the efficient functioning of the entire educational office.

Providing necessary support for the development of human and physical resources in schools in the region and assisting in school administrative activities by resolving problems.

Zonal Activities

The General Administration Section in Horana educational office is responsible for handling the overall administrative and office management functions to ensure smooth daily operations. This section manages clerical work such as maintaining files, handling correspondence (letters, circulars, and emails), and organizing official documents. It oversees human resource matters of non-academic staff, including attendance, leave, and duty assignments. The section is also responsible for coordinating meetings, preparing reports, and maintaining office records and registers. In addition, it handles logistics such as office maintenance, furniture, and equipment, and ensures proper use of government resources.

Our Services

The General Administration Section of a Zonal Education Office is primarily responsible for the successful and efficient implementation of the daily administrative activities of the office. This section performs tasks such as managing correspondence and files, maintaining employee attendance and leave records, organizing meetings and conferences, maintaining office supplies and property, and planning transportation facilities. It is also responsible for ensuring that the office operates in accordance with public administration laws and regulations, and maintaining the cleanliness and security of the office. In this way, this section provides the necessary administrative support to all other sections and makes an important contribution to increasing the overall efficiency of the Zonal Education Office.

Our Services

  • Preparing and regulating the duty lists of the officers and staff of the Zonal Office and other educational institutions connected to it.
  • Maintaining the personal files of the Principals (National Schools), Educational Officers and Non-Academic Staff of the Sri Lanka Education Administrative Service. (Salary increments, foreign leaves, service extensions, retirement files, granting loan approval, recommendations for promotions, approval of official leave, maternity leave and special sick leave, granting annual salary increments, permanent employment, transfers, disciplinary proceedings….)
  • Making arrangements for staff payments, overtime, daily wages. Holiday wages, settlement of all bills, granting of railway passes etc.
  • Making relevant recommendations/approvals for advances, loans, and Agrahara insurance.
  • Carrying out the transfer and release of non-academic staff working in the education zone.
  • Carrying out legal activities related to the general administration sector such as judicial activities, human rights complaints, petition committees, advisory committees, audit inquiries, responding to performance questions, etc.
  • Carrying out internal disciplinary control activities and investigations.
  • Providing facilities for disciplinary investigations.
  • Organizing and implementing staff training programs.
  • Maintaining and developing office physical resources.
  • Carrying out all activities related to the provision and maintenance of facilities such as water, electricity and telephone for other institutions related to the divisional and regional offices.
  • Carrying out activities related to vehicle control.
  • Managing petty cash.
  • Carrying out activities related to daily mail.
  • Carrying out activities related to maintaining archives.
  • Carrying out reception counter, internal communication and related activities.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Zonal Education Director from time to time.
